“On Tuesday 20th July negotiations took place between the Director of Prague City Gallery, Milan Bufka, and the Mayor of Moravský Krumlov, Jaroslav Mokrý, in which Prague City Gallery offered to provide Moravský Krumlov with a long-term exhibition of 19th Century Czech paintings from the gallery’s collection as a replacement for the Slav Epic,” said gallery spokesperson  Michaela Moučková.

Up to 150 unique works of art

The exhibition would include works by important artists such as Václav Brožík, Jaroslav Čermák, Mikoláš Aleš and Jakub Šikanedr. “The proposed exhibition would consist of about 150 works, many of which are of unique character,” said the senior curator of Prague City Gallery, Karel Srp. The proposal to set up the exhibition is part of an agreement of cooperation between Moravský Krumlov and Prague City Gallery which was drawn up two days ago.

Epic already on the move

Individual paintings will gradually be moved to Prague so that the whole Epic can be put on display in autumn. This should take place in the Exhibition Centre. If circumstances are favourable, people in Prague will be able to see the Slav Epic from 28th September.
