More and more popular multiplex cinemas

Just like in other European cities, the most frequented cinemas in Prague are multiplex cinemas. Tickets are more expensive but these cinemas offer good quality images and sound as well as comfort. Multiplex cinemas can be found both in the city centre and outside. What they have in common is that they are always easily accessible. The only 3D cinema is the IMAX  Cinema in Flora.

Traditional Prague’s Cinemas

One screen cinemas, the most well known being the Lucerna cinema, are usually described as art cinemas, projecting films different from the mainstream production. They have their own stable fans for whom they present films by smaller distribution companies, organize theme festivals and other events. Such cinemas are e.g.: Bio Oko and Světozor, Evald, Aero and Mat, which formally joined into the Osa 9 concept, named after the tram line, which serves all of them. In the summer, Prague also opens several open-air cinemas.

Film festivals in Prague

The most important film festival in the city is the Febiofest held regularly at the end of March. Other Prague film festivals include One World, Days of European Film, Fresh Film Fest, International Outdoor Film Festival, Mezipatra Queer Film Festival, Bollywood Film Festival, Filmasia, and many others. The most prestigious Czech film award is the Czech Lion.
