The chain was made by children from primary schools and kindergartens in Prague and outside Prague. From 7th December, the chains had been brought to Prague City Hall in Mariánské Square, where they were measured. The commission then reached the conclusion that the 17,292 metre-long chain constitutes a new record and deserves to be listed in the Czech Book of Records. A part of the chain measuring over two and a half kilometre was used to decorate a tree in Stromovka, where the record was celebrated. The rest of this colourful Christmas chain will be put on other trees in Stromovka Park.
Dobrý Den Agency from Pelhřimov confirmed the validity of the record.
The Mayor fulfilled three wishes
“Christmas is also a time of fulfilled wishes and that is why, beside the chain, you were bringing letters with your secret wishes. I am glad that, as I have promised, I can fulfil the following three wishes, which were drawn at random. I wish you all a happy Christmas full of joy and love,” said Mr. Bém. The chosen wishes were a swing, an interactive game and lego blocks. More than fifty schools, kindergartens and other children’s institutions had joined in the event.
