Come and Celebrate Fathers’ Day at Tátafest!

On Sunday 17th June from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. a Fathers‘ Day celebration Tátafest 2012 will take place in Parukářka Park, Prague. The event, organized by the League of Open Men and the Union of Centres for Families and Communities, wants to emphasise the importance of active fatherhood and create a playful space for dads, their children, families and friends. The programme includes concerts, workshops, a raffle with valuable prizes, games, competitions, refreshment stalls and a tea room.

Celebrations outside Prague

The organizers‘ objective was to encourage the establishment of informal Fathers‘ Day celebrations in the whole of the CR. Thus, on the third Sunday in June, similar events will be held in Ostrava, Bohumín, Nový Bor, Ústí nad Orlicí and other places throughout the Czech Republic. Programmes of all of the Tátafests are available at www.tatafest.cz (only in Czech), along with further information on Fathers’ Day and the organizers.

Fathers‘ Day is a celebration that is slowly gaining its place in our country. It comes from the USA and the idea came from a woman - Sonora Smart Dodd, whose father – a widower, looked after five children. Fathers‘ Day was first celebrated in 1910. From the USA it spread to Europe and it is usually held on the third Sunday in June. This year’s celebration falls on 17th June.

14:00 Opening
14:30 Papaband – joint musical project by dads from Maitrea – Sluštice pre-school
15:45 Cantina – vocal ensemble accompanied by the piano and African drumming, singing folk songs not only from Bohemian and Moravia. The ensemble is a project carried out by the civic association Voicecamp and their motto is “You have a voice, so sing”
16:30 raffle results or who gets the parachute jump, flight in a windy tunnel or a crate of beer?
17:00 Žižkovská smršť – orchestra numbering up to 50 members, playing marches, folk, film, musical and swing music
Workshops 14 – 18 h: Voicecamp voice workshop, musical creative and drumming workshop A Centrum, Čajomír’s tea island, DIY workshops, LEGO workshop, pétanque, volunteer firefighters
