The fair, held from 26th to 31st August, will present some 1800 performers in 60 ensembles, out of which 20 come from the CR and 40 from abroad. “This year’s participation is a record one,” said one of the organizers, Zdeněk Pšenica, from the Folklore Association of the CR.

Unusual ensembles, as usual

As usual, the festival will feature ensembles presenting folklore almost unknown in our country.  There will be Ritmos & Tamborek from Cape Verde Islands,  the Maori ensemble Whakaari Rotorua from New Zealand, as was the case in the past years the there will also be Mexican, Israeli, Turkish and Indonesian folklore. European folklore will also have its place at the fair presenting ensembles from Belgium to Greece.

Friday Parade through Prague

The highlight of the festival will be the parade on 27th August, starting at 13.30 from the Old Town Square and going via Celetná Street and Na Příkopě Street to Můstek, the venue of a show given by 35 ensembles.

Craft

An auditorium with 320 places will be erected in Ovocný Trh, yet there will also be folklore craft specialities, such as blown glass, pottery, baskets and other folklore products. At some stalls, the visitors will have an opportunity to decorate eggs, paint ceramics, etc.
