The names of restaurants, such as Terasa U Zlaté studně, La Rotonde, Alcron and V Zátiší, are well known to gourmets. These are the restaurants which, in absolute ratings for food, interior, service and prices, took the top places in this year’s issue of Maurer’s Choice Grand Restaurant 2012. In these, and another 25 restaurants, local people and visitors to Prague now have a chance to taste Chef’s specialities at pleasing festival prices.
All the best at reasonable prices
Visitors to the festival have the opportunity to choose from four types of food tasting, from basic to three course degustation. Even in the most expensive restaurants you will not pay more than 600 CZK, which is only a fraction of the standard price. Customers can choose from almost thirty restaurants and their menus at www.grandrestaurantfestival.cz. On this website reservations can also be made in any of the restaurants on offer, except Terasa U Zlaté studně, which was already fully booked before the festival began.
From Tiger Prawns to Sirloin
The list of dishes which gourmets can savour in Prague is far-reaching (see it here). As well as numerous exotic dishes it is also possible to find traditional and less traditional Czech dishes. “We can be proud that some of the clever and creative chefs are beginning to return to traditional recipes. If a restaurant offers something like smoked breast of duck on a salad of Bystročice sauerkraut, or Přeštice piglet, then I know that the chef respects regional products and doesn’t buy nameless ingredients from just anyone,” says festival director Pavel Maurer.
A Gourmet Journey through Prague
A feature of the festival is an accompanying programme in the form of the Yummy Bus, with which really keen gourmets can manage to visit several restaurants in one day. In Prague there are four Yummy Bus routes which always begin with a celebratory toast, continue with a short course in the sommelier’s art, a visit to a restaurant and a meeting with the Chef of the chosen establishment. Furthermore, everyone who goes on the gastronomic trip will receive a gift of a copy of Maurer’s Choice Grand Restaurant 2012.
