This is the 23rd time the Light of Bethlehem has come to the Czech Republic. The motto of this year’s Light of Bethlehem is “People who walk in darkness, see a great light…” (Iz 9.1).

Bethlehem Postal Service

On Saturday 17th December scouts will distribute the light around Prague on a special historical tram. From Saturday it will then be possible to obtain the light from 1pm to 6pm at a stall in Náměstí Míru. The stall will also offer a “Bethlehem Post” service – customers will receive a free postcard which can then be stamped with a commemorative Light of Bethlehem stamp and immediately sent from the stall via Czech Post.

Where can the Light of Bethlehem be found?

The Light of Bethlehem can be obtained during opening hours from the Central Library of Prague Municipal Library in Mariánské Náměstí, but also from the building of Czech Radio, and of course from churches in Prague. Full details can be found on the Light of Bethlehem website.

Tram and concerts

On Saturday 17th December between 1pm and 7pm scouts will distribute the Light of Bethlehem on a special historical tram. Prague Transport Company has also prepared several concerts featuring the 24-member DPP Choir. The first concert will take place on Saturday 17th December 2011 at 6pm in the Czechoslovak Hussite Church in Vinohrady, Prague. “Ryba’s Czech Christmas Mass will be performed here, during which we will be joined by guest singers from the Vítězslav Novák Choral Association from Znojmo,” said Lukáš Janírek, choirmaster of DPP Choir.
