Villages, whose areas these three railways belong to, have asked SŽDC (railway management) for the transfer of their property. The management itself has asked the villages to apply for “their” railways. By now 50 villages have applied from all over the country. The important fact is that SŽDC wants to change almost 20 of them into cycling tracks. Eight cycling tracks will appear in region Ústecko, six in Moravia-Silesian region and three in region Olomoucko. Abandoned railways are changing into the cycling ways all over Europe, the State is very often involved in these changes. The foundation Partnership also wants to help these villages.

Cycling tracks which replace old railways have very good technical considerations. Cyclists won’t cross many hilly distances and so these cycle tracks are appropriate for families with children. The only problems hindering them from starting construction are finances. Changes of use are too expensive for most villages. The positive aspect is that the Government, the Association of Regions or the Foundation Partnership may help. The Association and the Foundation have already started negotiations with the railway.
