We are concerned mainly in the protection of oaks, alder, damp meadows, ponds, and other important species of flora and animals.
quoted councillor Petr Štěpánek, who presented proposals to the local government.
The 88 hectares of land is the biggest area that the town has bought for the recreational purposes of the inhabitants. The cost of the land is more than 32 million CZK. Milíčovsky forest has been a protected landscape area since 1998 and the pond and one of its parts is even recorded as a significant European sight under the terms of programme Natura 2000. Therefore, it is unsuitable for the development of industrialised zones or shopping centres.
Also cyclists can enjoy this area. They find a lot of support by local government and there will be another cycling track along the brook Rokytka.” It will be a s short track as the town has two areas about 50m long that are attached to each other and bridge over
Freyova street,” quoted an assistant of mayor Pavel Klega. Although the length is not anything significant, but those 50m will allow a new connection to an existing part of the cycle track, which leads directly to the city centre. The town is going to pay about 79 million CZK for this new cycle track. Half of the sum is from European Union funds. Included in this price, which many opponents considered too high, is a modification of the landscape, where there used to be industrial areas, additionally it is important to deal with the ecological impact. It is also concerned with the reconstruction of two bridges and the reconstruction of current street lights. Three kilometres of the new part should be done by the end of next year.
