At the moment it is not possible to use central routes along the river due to the recent swelling of the Vltava. At the moment people can cycle or go skating only in the area between Vyšehrad Rock and Zbraslav. The routes are, however, expected to be open again sometime this week. The present situation means that it is mostly cycle routes on the outskirts are being used.
Cyclists in the city centre can make use of so called cycle lanes. So far, only 8.8 km of cycle lanes have been made in the city centre. Last month, new cycle lanes of almost one kilometre were created in the streets of U Uranie and Jankovcova in Prague 7. There is also one novelty in Prague that was set up about a month ago, which is “cyklobus lanes“. This means that cyclists are allowed to use some bus lanes. The number of such lanes is meant to increase in the future.
For a map of Prague’s cycle routes, go to http://www.prahounakole.cz. A printed map of Prague for cyclists can be obtained from Prague City Hall‘s Information Centre in Mariánské square. The last edition dates back to last September, it also contains basic information for cyclists in English and German.
According to http://doprava.praha-mesto.cz cyclists, pedestrians, drivers and skaters can also view 12 display boards focusing on Prague´s cycling infrastructure. The exhibition is in Florenc Coach Station until the 20th of July, and then it moves to Muzeum and Náměstí Republiky metro stations where it should be displayed until the end of summer holidays.
There are three main in-line skating areas in Prague: Ladronka, Letenské Sady and Stromovka. During season, in-line skates can be rented in all three places.
In Letenské Sady, skating lanes have undergone renovation, but there are still places that are not optimal. In the future, cyclists and skaters might also see Štvanice Island and the whole of Vltava embankment adjusted as well.
