Together with the artwork that is hidden in Czech depositaries, many pieces from famous European galleries also made it to Prague. The exhibition captures the Rembrandt era in art presenting about 300 paintings and 80 graphics made by artists from the Rembrandt milieu. They capture period merrymaking such as ice-skating, drinking sprees or music parties. The exhibition’s concept includes children, shows connections with Flemish painting, impressive landscape painting and Ancient allegories.
Attractive selection
Even though there are just two paintings made by Rembrandt himself (and two dozen of his graphics), the exhibition still features a highly presentable selection. Apart from the fact that the National Gallery collection itself counts amongst the best in Europe, the collection was also supplemented by twelve loans from Europe. The exhibition also features many paintings that used to be ascribed to Rembrandt, but the research proved they were done by his pupils. Some of them even have Rembrandt’s signature.
Rich accompanying programme
A good custom has it that the National Gallery supplements its events by a rich accompanying programme. For example the kid’s workshops are included to attract families with children. The exhibition entry is CZK 150 with discounts for students and families with children.
