The exhibition was organized with the participation of Východočeská galerie (East-Bohemia Gallery) in Pardubice, which has a collection of several works by Čapek. A significant part of the exhibition, however, will be formed by little-known or completely unknown works, even some that were thought to be lost. There will be almost a thousand paintings, graphic works, drawings and sketches. When the exhibition closes in January next year it will move to Pardubice, where it will open in March. At the exhibition a catalogue is available which was published by the Zdeněk Sklenář Gallery, which was behind the initiation of a project to document the works of Josef Čapek. Apart from the catalogue a review of Čapek’s graphic work has been published, while other booklets feature his paintings and drawings. The paintings on display at Prague Castle are of immeasurable value. If Čapek’s works ever go to auction they are valued in millions of CZK. The most valuable work by Čapek sold at auction two years ago was Koupel (Foot-bath), which was bought for 9.3 million CZK. It is precisely the paintings held in private collections that are among the most interesting.
