For the ninth year in a row, Prague museums and galleries open their doors to visitors at an unusual time. The turnout last year was 180 thousand visitors who made use of the wide range of special events.
Things to look forward to
The following institutions take part in the event for the first time: AMoYA - Museum of Young Art, New Town Hall, Prague Botanical Garden, House of National Minorities and MeetFactory, which houses an exceptional after party until 3 a.m. There is also a wide range of events for children. “After all, on New Year’s Eve and at Museum Night, children should go to bed a little bit later than usual,“ said the director of the National Museum Michal Lukeš. “There are never as many interesting possibilities for them as at museum night.”
Transport and Admission free!
Transport is ensured by ten special bus routes. Nine of them start at Palachovo Square, the tenth one at Smíchov Railway Station. Metro that night finishes one hour later, however no connecting buses are ensured for that purpose. Passengers can make use of night lines. Handicapped citizens
Prague Public Transport Company prepared special low-floor buses for all the routes. However, not all the museums are barrier-free. In that case we recommend creating one’s own museum night programme, which can be done at www.prazskamuzejninoc.cz. There is also a special exhibition entitled An Exhibition That You Don’t Have to See, prepared by Prague Municipal Library in cooperation with United Organization of Blind and Visually Impaired. It is an exhibition of music, provided with Braille.
Create Your Own Night
Prague Museum Night website allows you to create your own route by using My Night application (Moje noc). In the past years, mobile phones were used to work with the applications by means of QR codes. At present, mobile phones can only be used in the normal operation. Museum Night website, as well as http://muzeum3000.nm.cz/ allows you to watch some things on–line. What is more, there will be a surprise at 22h 22 minutes, concerning the building of the National Museum.
