Music built on contrasts

CocoRosie are coming to the Czech Republic for already their third time. In 2007, they made their appearance at Archa Theatre, Prague and at the Colours of Ostrava festival. In 2010, they returned to Archa Theatre. These American pioneers of a style called freakfolk started their joint musical career in 2003. They draw on the contrast of their musical expressions – Sierra, with opera musical education, accompanies herself on the guitar, harp and kazoo, whereas Bianca, a versatile pop vocalist, reaches beyond the borders of singing into something like animal speech and for her a typical whining. She accompanies herself with childrens‘ toys, a little trumpet, keyboards and percussions.

CocoRosie’s concert is an experience from another world

Dreamy ambience emanating from drum'n'bass rhythms, touches of folk alternating with brisk disco, opera melodies fading away in electronic breakers, this is the music by CocoRosie. Their exotic rhythmical base with roots in folk Indian music, create a diverse jungle and a generous space for musical waggishness. This year, with the group Rajasthan Roots, they have also performed in Hamburg and at Donau Festival, Krems. Coco and Bianca recorded their new single We are on Fire together with Dave Sitek from TV on the Radio and the singer Antony Hegarty, who also participates in another new composition Tearz For Animals.
