Exclusively at this year’s Proms

The common link between most of the concerts is the Czech National Symphony Orchestra, which will accompany the major stars of Prague Proms. The orchestra will demonstrate its instrumental versatility at a whole series of concerts. The first concert will be performed at the American Night – the opening of the festival - when the orchestra will accompany the famous trumpeter Nicholas Payton and his band, who have prepared the first night of Payton’s own composition Black American Symphony.

As usual, the concerts for Prague Proms will be held in Smetana Hall in Municipal House. Other venues include Jazz Dock or Žofín Garden club. On 30th July,  Archa Theatre shows a performance about the composer Leoš Janáček, entitled Leoš aneb Tvá nejvěrnější by the theatre Husa na Provázku from Brno.

The best of film and musical music

Lovers of famous film tunes should not miss the Hollywood Night, which will be held in the Municipal House on 1st July. The concert will include music from such films as Amélie, Rambo, Star Wars, Inception or series such as Just You Wait and the Simpsons. The evening full of music will be interpreted by the Czech National Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Kryštofa Marka. On 3rd July, the orchestra, conducted by Carl Davis will play at the Broadway Lights concert, featuring the best music from musicals.

Foreign stars for the first time in the CR

Besides the trumpeter Payton, Czech spectators will have the opportunity to see for the first time in the CR other excellent artists, e.g. the jazz singer Kurt Elling or the American – Venezuelan pianist Gabriela Monter. The closing concert of the festival, on 21st July in the Municipal House, will be tragic, as is suggested by its name The Death in the Opera. The concert presents eight arias that capture eight world-famous opera tragedies, including Carmen, Traviata, Faust and Don Giovanni.

Prague Proms 2012 will host dozens of other artists. For more information on the programme, visit www.pragueproms.cz.
