The reason behind the rise in admission fees is the rising cost of energy and other sources. The last increase in admission fees took place in January 2008. Since then, the fees had stayed the same, regardless of inflation.
Happy Mondays are still on
The rise in admission fees affects both one-day and annual tickets. The new price of a one-day adult ticket is 200 CZK and an annual adult ticket costs 700 CZK. Prague Zoo will continue providing concessions for children, students, families with children, senior citizens and handicapped people. Children under three years of age will still enter for free. The Zoo also continues the concept of Happy Mondays, meaning that every Monday a certain group of visitors (e.g. adoptive parents of animals from the zoo, pregnant mothers, etc.) only pay the symbolic admission of 1 CZK.
Reduced rate for third and other children
In order to be more friendly towards families with more than two children, we are introducing a new type of ticket – when buying a family ticket valid for two adults and two children, the rate for the other children will be reduced to only 100 CZK per child. We are also cancelling entrance fees to the Obora View Tower.
Where the money goes
Funds raised by the increased admission fees will go directly to the operation of the zoo. The changes in the system of admission fees will also enable the zoo to increase the amount of money that goes from each ticket to support wildlife protection projects – instead of 1 CZK, it will be 2 CZK.
Limited annual passes
Prague zoo decided to change the system of admission fees for two reasons. Firstly, to cover the increasing cost of energy and secondly, to prevent abuse of non-transferable annual passes. Due to more and more frequent cases, when friends and even whole organizations were passing one annual ticket onto each other, the zoo decided to limit the number of entries on annual tickets to 12. Prague Zoo believes that such a limitation will not affect ordinary visitors, as the statistics from the last two years show that the average number of visits on one annual pass was much lower than 12.
