The rescue archaeological research was occasioned by a construction development of family housing. Together with the area of a former spinning factory they will form a vast housing complex which is being built by the company VACCO-Invest s.r.o.
Among the most interesting findings is a jewel typical for early medieval graves, sigmoid bronze earrings, further ceramic dishes and glass beads. A grave of a man who was accompanied by four arrows with metal tips, a metal sharpening tool and a knife to the after life, has so far been the grave with the highest number of objects. Out of prehistoric findings recessed settlement objects and pole holes, by which means an original ground plan can be reconstructed.
“The archaeological research rescue has recorded only a small part of the burial-ground, “says Jan Mařík, head of the research. “We can assume that there are other tens of graves in the area of the scheduled routes where excavation works are going to take place shortly“, he added.
Although the site is not absolutely unknown to the archaeologists, only findings from the early and late Stone Age and Bronze Age from this area are registered in the archives of the Institute of Archaeology in Prague. “Finding of early medieval burial-grounds is a great surprise for us, “says Jan Mařík.
