  • 18. 4. 2014 Metro Station Národní in Operation from July
    Národní Třída metro station, which is closed due to construction work on Quadria (next to “My” shopping centre), is also undergoing extensive reconstruction and will reopen in a matter of weeks. The station is to be in operation again at the beginning of July.

    Prague people can participate in the charity run for Světluška (firefly) in Stromovka for the third time. It is to be held on Tuesday 29th April and there will be a variety of participants showing support including runners with headlamps, blind runners, their guides, and even celebrities.

    The National Gallery in Prague presents its new permanent exhibitions The Art of the Ancient World and The Art of Asia Kinský Palace, which was opened to public on 17th April 2014. On offer are the best artefacts from the collections of the National Gallery as well as other Czech institutions.
  • 17. 4. 2014 Unique Exhibition: Ivan Lutterer’s Shots of Prague
    The tragic death of a photographer Ivan Lutterer (1954 – 2001) discontinued his artwork which has become engraved in the history of Czech photography. Beside other things, he managed to capture a lot of the Prague’s vanishing elements. The first comprehensive overview of his artwork is being hosted by the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague up until 15th June.

    Organisers of the Prague Marathon became inspired by the running legend Emil Zátopek and have launched a new programme called Run Czech Racing. It is an association of young elite athletes of various nationalities such as Ethiopian, Kenyans, Czech, Russian, etc., who train together and run in the most prestigious races on the planet. Prague turns to their home for most of the year.

    A charity performance of the passion play “Jidáši, kam jdeš?” (Where are you going Judas?) is now an essential feature in the Easter cultural programme of Prague Castle. The open air performance gives a unique view of the traditional bible story of Jesus of Nazareth without the religious dogma.

    Days of European Film (DEF) are starting on 10th April in Lucerna and Světozor cinemas and bring together more than 50 screenings from the all over Europe. The festival aims to reflect the current trends in European cinematography.

    There are good chances for Prague to become the European Capital of Sport in 2016 as it is an ideal candidate. The City applied to Brussels last year in November and the Mayor of the city Tomáš Hudeček has signed a memorandum of support already.

    In just two years the Czech Republic's largest city could become the European Capital of Sport. Prague representatives signed a Memorandum today confirming its support for all levels of sport as part of its candidacy. The city submitted its nomination papers to Brussels in November of last year.
