Important notice

The number of volunteers who have registered at the Czech Red Cross tents in Mariánské Square continues to increase. A total of 3,164 volunteers had registered by the 8th of April. Prague is now able to expand its offer of help to families who have children with special needs. As services for them are now limited and special schools are closed, the situation is more challenging than before.

On the 12th of March 2020, the Czech government declared a state of emergency due to the coronavirus pandemic. The emergency was extended until 30 April.
 

Hana Třeštíková, Prague City Councillor for Culture, has organised further measures to support culture in Prague.

The lack of face masks in Prague has led to a huge wave of solidarity, as people make marks at home and give them to their fellow citizens. However, masks must be sterilised and effectively distributed.

According to the Mayor of Prague’s instruction, all public transport passengers in Prague are obliged to use respiratory protection, such as a mask, bandana or scarf, from the 17th of March onwards.

Prague City Hall is limiting its services and is operating exclusively at the counters. New City Hall is closed, and these changes will also affect the City Council’s activities.

Due to emergency measures regarding the spread of the coronavirus Covid-19, the number of passengers using public transport in Prague is declining.

On Thursday, March 12, the Czech government approved the announcement of an emergency situation throughout the Czech Republic. Emergency is declared for 30 days. Since March 16, Czech government declared ban on traveling abroad and entry of foreigners into the Czech Republic from all around the world. The measures are in effect until further notice. Due to the exceptional measures regarding the coronavirus COVID-19, some cultural institutions such as museums, galleries and historical monuments in Prague are closed until further notice.  

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is caused by a novel coronavirus, which means this virus has not been found before. However, we know that the virus transmits mainly via (a) direct contact with droplets from an infected person; and (b) indirect contact by touching contaminated surfaces where the virus can survive for a short time.
