Route I.

will lead you through Strahov Monastery, Hradčany and king’s Castle.

Terrain

With respect to the sloping terrain, it is preferable to start the route at Pohořelec, where freely accessible parking is located. From there, you can continue down towards Prague Castle. The route ends in Na Opyši Street leading to Klárov, where you can move your car. All the courtyards of Prague Castle as well as the Royal Garden are wheelchair accessible with smooth surfaces. There are two steps at the gateway to the garden. The wheelchair accessible entrance is on the right hand side. Inconvenient terrain is particularly in Strahov Courtyard, in the Golden Lane, and in Jiřská and Na Opyši Streets. The biggest problem is the historical paving and steep terrain. We recommend assistance for this route.

Transport

This locality is practically inaccessible by public transport. The nearest bus stop with wheelchair accessiblity bus (route 3, Ďáblice – Florenc – Zličín) is situated next to Hradčanská metro station, in Milady Horákové street. You can get to Pohořelec also from Strahov stadium. There are bus stops with low-floor buses, numbers 176 and 217. However, the way from the stop to Pohořelec over Petřín is quite long and difficult.

Wheelchair accessible cultural-historical monuments on the route

ST. ROCH CHURCH (Strahov courtyard), PRAGUE CASTLE, ROYAL GARDEN, BELVEDER (Royal Garden), ST. VITUS CATHEDRAL (Prague Castle), OLD ROYAL PALACE (Prague Castle), JOSEF KALOUSEK GALLERY (Hradčanské náměstí), LOBKOVIC PALACE (Jiřská 3).

Route II.

will show you part of Old Town and Jewish Town also called Josefov.

Terrain

The terrain on this route is flat without slopes. As for the wheelchair accessibility, the historical paving in Týnská Street, Ungelt and partly in the Old Town Square causes the greatest difficulties. At the junction of Pařížská and Kostečná Street there are no ramps to a pavement which is approximately 5 cm high. There is also no ramp at the widened pavement in front of the Old Town Hall.

Transport

Metro stations in this area are inaccessible. There is a bus stop with wheelchair accessibility, bus routes 1 and 3 in Náměstí Republiky.

Route III.

leads through south-west part of the Old Town, however it will pass by some monuments of the New Town.

Terrain

The route leads through the streets of the Old Town, which means that the biggest difficulties for people in wheelchairs will be caused by the historical paving. This will be in particular in Michalská, Zlatá, Husova, Liliová and Karlova streets. Moreover, a wide slow-down belt with two steps has been placed in Karlova Street. On the way from Křižovnické Square to Charles Bridge, there is a short but steep slope. Therefore we recommend approaching Charles Bridge from the Lesser Town. The terrain on Novotného lávka, Smetanovo nábřeží, and Národní třída is satisfactory.

Transport

City public transport with wheelchair access is practically unavailable in this area. The closest accessible public transport is metro station Muzeum in Václavské square.

Wheelchair accessible cultural-historical monuments on the route

FRANTIŠKÁNSKÁ GARDEN (Jungmannovo nám.), NÁPRSTEK MUZEUM (Betlémské nám. 1), KLEMENTINUM (Karlova 1), NATIONAL THEATRE (Národní 2), NEW SCENE (Národní 4), LIBRARY OF THE ACADEMY OF SCIENCES (Národní 3)

Route IV.

will introduce you the Lesser Town through all the periods of its development.

Terrain

As far as the wheelchair accessible way is concerned, the Lesser Town is slightly more difficult, because the route leads through a historical built-up area. Pavements in this area are often narrow or with paving of lower quality. Therefore a part of the route must be taken on the road. In the upper half of the Lesser Town Square (Malostranské náměstí) and in Nerudova Street the terrain is complicated not only because of the historical paving but also because of steep slopes. Assistance for this part of the route is therefore necessary. We recommend approaching Charles Bridge from Mostecká Street, where there is only a gentle slope compared to the access from the Old Town.

Transport

The only accessible public transport in this area is a wheelchair accessible bus number 3 that stops at Klárov.

Wheelchair accessible cultural-historical monuments on the route

WALDSTEIN RIDING SCHOOL (Valdštejnská), GALLERY MILLENIUM (Tomášská 10), GALLERY ART AND CRAFT (Malostranské náměstí 23), GALLERY CHIMÉRA (Lázeňská 6), NOSTIC PALACE (Maltézské náměstí 1), CHURCH OF OUR LADY BELOW THE CHAIN (Kostel Panny Marie pod řetězem) (Lázeňská)
