Travelling by train is a challenging task for wheelchair users; especially as some train stations continue to be very complicated to access. However, the number of trains adapted for wheelchair users is on the increase.
Trains marked with ‘S’ are the accessible ones. These are mainly in use as part of Prague’s public transport system and can be accessed with a valid MHD ticket (City Public Transport ticket). Most of the ‘S’ trains running on the main railways are equipped with carriages suitable not only for wheelchair users, but also for mothers pushing the prams and people walking with crutches.
The railways mentioned connect: Prague with Kolín, Nymburk, Benešov, Kralupy upon Vltava, Roztoky by Prague or Karlštejn and Beroun. In the timetable, the trains that are wheelchair friendly are marked with an icon for disabled.
If a wheelchair bound person travels further than the zones of the MHD, he or she has to rely on the availability of mobile elevating platforms at some station destinations. The amount of accessible stations will increase due to the reconstruction plan produced by the Czech Railway Company (ČD). We have attached below, an updated list, as of 20th August 2008, of all the stations equipped with elevating platforms. The telephone numbers are added should you require further information. In case of doubt, you can contact the relevant ČD railway station on 972 111 111.
Other information about the train connections can be found on www.cd.cz/bezprekazek (available only in Czech).
