The oak tree from Braník growing in the Mezivrší Street received 16, 500 votes and had been on front runner for a long time. However, Římov citizens worked at trying to get votes for their lime tree throughout the whole region. It worked, which means that signatures of people living in partner cities, for example in German Albrechtsberg and Croatian Rijeka, have given their votes to the lime tree. Many local companies have also participated in the campaign,
Pavlína Binková from the Brno Ecological Partnership Foundation, which organizes the survey, said.
New trees will be acquired from the survey profit
The results of the survey were published at the Concert for Trees which has the goal of supporting the planting of new trees in the country and to encourage public interest in green issues.
The winning tree will get an expert make over in the spring. Should it be that further treatment by dendrologists will not be necessary, new trees will be bought for Římov.
About eighty thousand people took part in this year’s voting. They voted via text messages. The ecologists raised 620 000 CZK which will be used for planting new trees in the Czech Republic. The Partnership Foundation has already given money for planting several thousand trees. The Stojan lime tree from Beňov in the Přerov region won the competition last year.
