How Much Water Do We Have in Our Capital City?

The watercourses and water works are primarily operated and maintained by the Department of Waterways and Forests of Prague City, ultimately they are also managed by the River Vltava Basin, the River Labe Basin or by the Forestry of the Czech Republic. All small watercourses of particular urban neighbourhoods within the boundaries of Prague 1- Prague 22 are maintained by the State. Out of the total length of 337.8 km approximately 212 km are administered by Prague’s municipality.

Besides the River Vltava, whose 430 km currently make it the longest Czech river, there is also the River Berounka, which empties into the Vltava at Prague-Lahovice. Its watercourse is 139.1 km long.

The longest of Prague’s streams is: the Rokytka (36.2 km), Botič (33.5 km), Radotínský stream (22.6 km), Říčanský stream (21 km), Šárecký (19.5 km), Mratínský – Červenomlýnský (15.22 km) Dalejský (13.5 km), and Kunratický (14.8 km) stream. Here is a list of most of them.
