The babybox, where mothers can put their new born babies if they for some reason do not want or cannot look after them, will be placed at the entrance in Jugoslávská Street. It can be used from 8th March and its establishment was initiated by the Mayor, Jana Černochová, after a baby girl had been found in October in Charles Square. It showed that the city centre needs a babybox, as travelling to Hloubětín, where a babybox had been set up years ago, is really a bit too far.
Security will alert emergency medical service
If a baby is placed in the Town Hall babybox, it should receive help within a few minutes. The babybox will send a text message to eight mobile phone numbers. A member of security, which guards the Town Hall at all times, will immediately check the box. If the baby in the box is not threatened in any way, the security will not take the baby out, only alert the emergency medical service, which is situated nearby. This means that an ambulance should be on spot in a matter of minutes and take the baby to the nearby maternity hospital in Apolinářská Street.
