“We have strengthened outreach capabilities. Every day social service workers visit many places where considerable amounts of homeless people sleep rough; they offer them counseling, advice and contacts for social services available in our establishments,” explained Councilor for the Social Region Jiří Janeček adding that social workers approach many homeless people every day.

On top of all that there has been an increase in special ambulance services. “It goes to the homeless people two to three times a week and its crew offers them mainly health treatments,” stated director of Prague’s Social Services Centre Tomáš Ján. According to him they deal largely with homeless people’s pollen allergies, all sorts of rashes and neglected injuries. Problems with neglecled ticks or insect bites often develop in time.

In response to the fiercely hot weather Europe is experiencing, Prague’s Social Services Centre is trying to supply enough drinking water during the hotter months. On a positive note the homeless are showing a proactive desire to work. For example during June there were 800 homeless people asking at the JOB centre for work. “The interest is mainly in seasonal work in building, gardening and fieldwork,” described Prague’s Social Services Centre director’s assistant Ludmila Tomešová adding, that increased interest from homeless people is expected especially during harvest which should be in a full swing in August.
