This year, for the first time, the doors of churches will be open not only across the whole of Austria and parts of Germany, but also throughout the Czech Republic. Night-time pilgrims will have an unprecedented experience, and free of charge.

Visitors can already choose from a wide range of programme activities on the website www.nockostelu.cz. They will have the opportunity to explore towers, vestries, chapels, cloisters, fraters and Elysian gardens. Within the churches they will be guided by word, uplifted by music, inspired by the quietness and prayer or take pleasure in encounters.

The Night of Churches is a project which gives the general public the chance to visit churches and chapels and become acquainted, not only with their cultural significance, but also in getting to know Christianity through music, art, personal encounters and experience.

This year the Night of Churches programme has also been prepared for visitors to churches, monasteries and chapels in the city of Prague and in other locations within the Prague archdiocese.

Patronage of the event in the Prague archdiocese has been taken by Cardinal Miloslav Vlk, archbishop emeritus of Prague, Mons. Dominik Duka OP, appointed archbishop of Prague, and MUDr Pavel Bém, Mayor of Prague.
