“Already this Sunday 11th April, a mass for the victims of Saturday's disaster was served in the St Jilji Church, which is a seat of the Polish parish. The sad event is also mourned by many Polish priests working in the Archdiocese of Prague,” the spokesman for the Prague Archbishopric Aleš Pištora, pointed out. He said that the news about the deaths of Polish President Lech Kaczynsky, his wife, Bishop Tadeusz Ploski and other significant Polish personalities was mourned with deep regret in the course of the mass in Prague cathedral; it was on this solemn occasion that Cardinal Miloslav Vlk handed over the Archdiocese of Prague to his successor Dominik Duka. Many Polish bishops and Polish Cardinal Franciszek Macharski among others were present at the event. “Pope Benedict XVI sent a telegram of condolence expressing his deepest sympathy to all Poles and ensuring them of his spiritual support. He also gave Polish people a special blessing,” said Pištora.
