Velká Chuchle Racecourse, where galloping and trotting races are held, is a popular leisure destination not only for those living in Prague, but also for horseracing enthusiasts from the Czech Republic and abroad. The horseracing season lasts from April to mid-November, except for the summer break in July and August. There will be 14 racing days with a total of 111 races for horseracing fans to look forward to this year.

Gomba Handicap

This traditional race was first held in the 1920s and, therefore, it is one of the oldest racing events in the Czech Republic. The race is named after Gomba stud farm, which bred horses between 1890 and 1936 in the village of Hubice in Slovakia. At the time, the race was dedicated to horses three years old and more. Recently, the 1200-metre flat race narrowed the competition, and now it is reserved for four-years-old and over.

April Stakes

Another highlight of the April afternoon in Velká Chuchle will be the 61st April Stakes, the first seasonal test and an important race for the season's top four-years-old and older, who will compete on a1800-metre long track. This race has also a rich history – it was first run in 1957.

Fun for children too!

There will be plenty of fun for the smallest visitors to the Prague-Velká Chuchle Racecourse. Apart from playing in the sandpit and on the playground, with swings and some brand-new games, children will have fun riding on the much-loved ponies Jupík, Vilík and Bajaja. They are allowed to bring some healthy snacks for the ponies, such as carrots and apples. Another popular attraction is the ‘Hříbátka’ children's area, located on the ground floor of the betting hall. There is a ball pool, a bouncy castle and a slide for kids. Parents can relax and supervise from the adjacent café.
