Visitors can look forward to more than one hundred special events related to fine arts, along with lectures, guided tours, debates, performances, workshops for parents with children, and backstage visits to studios. These are successful events that draw public attention, and that take place in many other European capitals. The organisers of Prague Art Week took their inspiration primarily from Vienna Art Week in neighbouring Austria. The aim of the project is to promote activity in galleries, museums and exhibition halls in our capital city and to draw attention to the rich programmes that are prepared for visitors. Therefore, Art Week is about much more than just looking at paintings.
Not to be missed
If you like antique objects, you should not miss an interesting guided tour around antique shops with the vice president of the Antique Dealers Association, Simona Šustková on Wednesday the 24th of April. The walk is organised by the Antique Dealers Association and the meeting point is at 3:00 pm in front of the association’s headquarters, Dům sv. Valentina (St. Valentin’s House) in number 7, Valentinská Street, Prague 1. The tour is free of charge.
On the 25th of April, Portheimka Glass Museum organises a tour for children over 5 years old. The guide will introduce art in the permanent exhibition, called ‘Glass as Art’, to the children in a playful way. Children will draw and write in 3D activity books and look at pictures with 3D glasses. Admission is CZK 100.
French cathedrals
There will be a lecture on the major French cathedrals of the 12th-14th centuries at the Municipal Library in Mariánské Square on the 25th of April 2019. Their architecture has fascinated us for centuries, due to its perfection and beauty, which was based on deep knowledge of sacred geometry, stellar cycles, acoustics and music. The cathedrals are a testament to outstanding architectural, stonework and sculptural art. Admission is 40 CZK.
That is not all. For those who like to create and try new things, Art Week has also prepared a number of workshops and artists' open studios.

New this year
Cooperation with the Gallery of the Central Bohemian Region GASK and the Lidice Memorial are new to this year’s programme. In the years to come, the festival organisers want to further expand their cooperation with the Central Bohemian Region and other regions. The ‘Máme otevřeno’ community festival and the Gallery Weekend festival, which is attended by dozens of private international galleries, are also part of Art Week.
