The Strings of Autumn festival was founded in 1996 during Václav Havel’s presidency by Prague Castle’s music curators at the time, Marek Vrabec and Martin Pechanec.

Starry festival history

In the first eight years of its existence, the Strings of Autumn festival gained recognition for its original programme and exceptional concerts, such as a recital by the American pianist, composer and poet Cecil Taylor; the Czech premiere of Michael Nyman, an English composer of film music; and a concert by the famous Norwegian saxophonist and composer Jan Garbarek, with the British vocal quartet Hilliard Ensemble.

In DOX for the first time

This year, for the first time, a luxury festival will take place in the recent multifunctional DOX + hall. On the 6th of November, the world-renowned composer Michael Gordon will personally introduce three of his compositions in this new space. The highlight of the event will be a unique composition ‘Timber’, where 6 percussionists will play wooden planks.

The most famous hip-hop group in Lucerna

De La Soul, one of the most famous and influential hip-hop bands of all time, will also perform during the music festival. While in Prague, they will also celebrate the 30th anniversary of the recoding of their most important album, ‘3 Feet High and Rising’.

The album, which is considered as one of the best hip-hop albums of all time, was chosen nine years ago by the US Congress in its library, where records of extraordinary cultural, historical and aesthetic significance are kept. The US group De La Soul’s concert will surely be an event to remember, on the 13th of November in Lucerna in Prague.
