The building which should stand between the streets Milady Horakove, Badeniho, Na Špejchaře and Letenske sady could stretch up to the present bus parking lot in Letna plain.

Most of the land that the city has reserved for the library is at present taken up by a rarely used tram loop and its surroundings. The municipal plan should take into consideration the whole plain of Letna, that the city would like to use as a sports and leisure area for Praguers. It is also necessary to solve the problem of transport during the construction of the library as there will be a connection to the city inner by-pass which will connect the city centre with Pelc Tyrolka.

According to the plans, the new building of the National Library should be built around the year 2010. The new building is meant to solve the institution‘s long-lasting problems with space. It should contain most of the library’s books deposits dating after the year 1800. The cost of the construction of the new library was set at about 1.8 milliard CZK, following the prices in 2004, when the construction started to be planned.
