Vyšehrad tunnel:

This motorway and tram tunnel is the shortest and also the oldest one in Prague. It measures 35 metres and was founded between 1902 and 1905. It has already been repaired a few times and also this year it will undergo a repair work especially because of tram rails. In the sixties Praguers had the opportunity to enjoy travelling on a boat because of repairs. The boat went around the bridge and thus was replacing a tram.

Letná tunnel:

It was planned already in the times of the First Republic and it even became a target of political disputes because right wing parties blamed Edvard Beneš saying that the tunnel was built because of his flat in Prague 7.

In the end the tunnel was built as late as 1949, it is 426 metres long and inside there were built covers that were supposed to be used in an event of a nuclear conflict. In 2002 the tunnel was damaged by floods and repaired together with Štěfánik Bridge.

Strahov tunnel:

This is the longest tunnel in the Czech Republic whose building took record-breaking 11 years (1986-1987). Reasons for this were arguments with environmental organisations and reluctance of owners close to the tunnel to sell buildings which threatened safety of the tunnel.

Zone of the most modern tunnel in the Czech Republic connects Smíchov with Dejvice. Its building started in 1986 and finished in 1997. The tunnel measures two kilometres and

In busy hour transfers up to 43.000 cars.

Tunnel Mrázovka:

It follows Strahov tunnel and up to this time it’s the last finished tunnel in Prague. It was opened in August 2004. It connects part of the city ring road leading from Zlíchov and Radlice radial road. During the installation of safety equipment only the most modern were used which was a reaction on disasters in Austrian tunnels.

Těšnov tunnel (Husák’s stillness – Husák was the former President of Czechoslovakian Republic):

It was given its nickname because it led bellow the building belonging to the former Communist Party Central Committee. It was founded between 1977 and 1980 and connects the centre with Karlín.

Zlíchov tunnel:

Also this bridge is part of the ring road that was put into service in 2002. It connects Zlíchov and Radlická Street and follows Barrandov Bridge.

Radotín tunnel:

Shortens the route between Slivenec and Lahvice where the highway circle is built. It connects Lochkov and should be opened next year (2009), together with other buildings of this section.
