This electric bike rental scheme is the result of the springtime event “Electromobility Week” when electrically powered bikes, boats, motorbikes and goods vehicles were demonstrated in Prague.

Even a recommended route

“There are various bikes, from folding bikes to mountain bikes and classical ladies’ bikes,” said Petr Holubec, spokesperson for PRE. “We will lend out the bikes, for a test ride of one hour, to our customers, who are in the majority in Prague. Of course, we can also recommend a route for riders to follow and try out the bikes.”

How to reserve a test-ride

Test-rides can be arranged a day in advance, every working day from 8.30 to 16.30. To keep to the time schedule it is necessary to arrive at least 15 minutes before the agreed time. Failure to arrive within 15 after the agreed time will result in cancellation of the reservation. In the event of inclement weather we reserve the right not to lend out the bikes (for reasons of traffic safety – rain, wet roads, slippery tramlines etc.) Test-rides can be booked on the PRE website.

Great interest in goods vehicle

During Electromobility Week, which took place in April, a goods vehicle also made an appearance in the city, for which it is ideal. “The goods vehicle was developed on the Avia truck chassis and has been presented at various trade fairs. We had a chance to try out the goods vehicle in full operation for two days and we drove over 60 km per day. The vehicle proved to be serviceable in the city without any problem,” said Holubec.

Still a lack of charging stations

Whereas you can recharge your bike at home (e.g. take out the battery and connect it to a charger plugged into the mains), Prague still lacks charging points, for example for goods vehicles. “Nevertheless, there is great interest and we are negotiating how and where to establish these points. I hope that, by the end of the year, the first projects on the theme of electric networks will appear in Prague,” said Holubec.

It goes well on Petřín

Petr Holubec was the first to try out the bike on Petřín. “I’m a cyclist and I was surprised when I pedalled up the lower part of Petřín like a racer. Of course, the electric bike is also great for old men and ideal for wives, who can then leave their keen sports-mad husbands far behind them on the hills,” said Holubec.
