The rich programme was jointly prepared by ROPID, Czech Railways, Railway Infrastructure Administration and the Railroad Kingdom with the aim of presenting the railway to Praguers and demonstrate the Esko train system as a fully-fledged part of public transport.

“Railway is a primary backbone of the Prague Integrated Transport with an enormous potential, which is true especially for Prague. Therefore we want to present to the public major development plans and novelties expected in the near as well as far-off future,” said the head of ROPID, Pavel Procházka.

Another “Esko” takes you to Milovice

“Each workday we dispatch 870 trains that are part of the Esko system which composes of 43 stops and is used by 85 to 90 thousand people daily.  There has been a year-on-year increase in passengers with their number rising by 10 thousand last year,” said Czech Railways deputy CEO for passenger transport Antonín Blažek adding, ”We intend to introduce a new S 20 line that will operate between Prague and Milovice.”

By bike, train, bus or car

A morning race is planned and will show which means of transport is quickest for the journey to the centre. Shortly after 8 a.m., teams of contestants will set off from Radotín travelling by train, bus, car or bike. The finishing line is to be in front of the shopping centre Anděl City. Children from Radotín School, who will also participate on the race, will be rewarded by a free tour of the nearby Railroad Kingdom.

Students and pupils will undoubtedly enjoy an educational programme that was prepared for them in the Railroad Kingdom under the auspices of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport.  A thematic tour is prepared for the primary school pupils who will learn about traffic infrastructure, life in the city and Czech countryside. Secondary school and college students will be introduced to the topic of the history of railways in the Czech countries. Three additional events will follow:

Check out the CityElefant

The first one is a presentation ride in the air-conditioned electric train CityElefant around Prague’s train stations and city centre giving all those interested a chance to see the extensive project of the Prague New Connection from all angles and try the revamped railway line to Běchovice. CityElefant will set off from Masaryk Train Station every two hours with the first train leaving at 9.05 a.m. and the last one at 5.05 p.m.

What does the office at Main Train Station look like?

Another attraction is going to be a tour of through the very heart of Prague Main Train Station and surrounding railway lines, the transport office, which will take place every 15 minutes, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Due to space restrictions, visitors will be divided into groups of 10 people.

Models Are Attraction

An exhibition, games and competitions will take place by Anděl. The main programme of the “Esko“Day offers an exhibition themed around the current and future face of Prague railways. There will also be competitions and games for children and adults alike, together with a selection of documentation on Prague Integrated Transport, including current train timetables. Those who can’t make it to Anděl can turn up to the Railroad Kingdom later on where the exhibition will be moved to. The programme will also include a competition selecting the contestant with the best knowledge of public transport in Prague and its neighbourhood.

Everyone who enjoys races and tourism, shouldn’t miss the chance to join in the PID orienteering. The aim is to visit the biggest possible amount of selected Prague locations by as many as possible means of transport and in the shortest possible time. The event is organised jointly with the Publishing House. The starting point is once again by Anděl, between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m.
