The tram track of the west end of Karlovo náměstí between Myslíkova and Na Moráni streets will be renovated due to a poor technical condition:

1st phase (28th June to 19th July 2014) will result in the discontinuation of the tram services in the section between Myslíkova and Resslova streets.

Related changes to services:

  • line 3 will be diverted to Jiráskovo náměstí
  • lines 18 and 24 will be diverted to Výtoň, Palackého and Jiráskovo náměstí
  • line 22 will be diverted to Palackého and Jiráskovo náměstí
  • new lines installed:
    • 23 Malovanka – Lazarská – Kobylisy
    • 33 Braník Station – Albertov –  Karlovo náměstí – Kubánské náměstí.

2nd phase reconstruction will result in discontinuation of services from Resslova Street to Moráň and Albertov and Na Moráni (section Moráň - Palackého náměstí). This phase will be completed by 8th August 2014.

Related changes to services:

  • line 3 will continue its diversion to Jiráskovo náměstí
  • lines 18 and 24 will remain to be diverted to Výtoň, Palackého and Jiráskovo náměstí
  • lines 10 and 16 will be diverted to Národní třída and Újezd.

Renovation of Karlovo náměstí

The tram track reconstructions will instigate further works in the area of Karlovo náměstí. The diversion will be utilised by road network administrators who will focus on pavement and road repairs. Renovations will continue even after the tram track repairs finish. This is expected for the end of summer holiday.

Repair timing proportional

Repair costs of 45.95 millions CZK are covered from the funds of the Prague Transit Company. When taking into account the length of the track which is only 379 meters, the repair time seems to be very long. “This is due to the nature of the repair works. We cannot employ heavy equipment nor can we occupy much space around the track. In other words, the repair works must follow the track and we aim to restrict the road traffic as little as possible,” explained Jan Šurovský, a technical director for PPTC.
