At the moment we anticipate a metro variant which will go from Pankrác station to a terminus at Písnice Depot. Whether Pankrác becomes an interchange station, or whether every third train from here will “branch off”, will be decided in spring next year.

“We have to check the condition of Nuselský bridge to see if it can take the strain, and we also have to make an estimate of costs to be drawn from the Transport operational programme,” said Jiří Pařízek, Councillor for Transport. Without the support of the European Union Prague will be unable to build a new metro line.

The budget for the cheapest variant is estimated at almost 25 billion CZK and 8km of new line will have to be built: with the “branch off” variant seven new stations would be built, or eight stations with Pankrác as an interchange station (Olbrachtova, Nádraží Krč, Nemocnice Krč, Nové Dvory, Libuš, Písnice and Depo Písnice). Prague City Council anticipates that, if the work goes to schedule, the first passengers could be using the link from the centre to the south of the city in 2022.
