The technical solution of the three new lifts is quite complex, due to its surroundings. This is why all three lifts will have a transit corridor, just like the wheelchair-accessible entrance to Národní Třída metro station, located in M. D. Rettigové Street.

Works at I. P. Pavlova have started

The works at I. P. Pavlova metro station started at the end of June. The wheelchair-accessible entrance leads to Legerova Street, on the ground floor of building no. 357 with direct access to the pavement. The metro station is connected with the surface via two lifts. For this project, an application for its support from the EU funds was submitted in May 2014 for the 11th call of the Operational Programme Prague - Competitiveness. The estimated total cost for the preparations and realization of the construction is 70 million CZK (the expected amount of funding is 47,825 million CZK).

European Funds also in Anděl

The wheelchair accessible entrance to  Anděl metro station will be on the Conner of Bozděchova and Nádražní Streets and it will also consist of two lifts. The construction works started at the end of June 2014. At present, preparation works are under way and the construction itself is going to start in the next few days. An application for its support from the EU Funds was submitted in May 2014 for the 11th call of the Operational Programme Prague - Competitiveness. The estimated total cost for preparations and realization of the construction is approximately 100 million CZK (the expected amount of funding is 84,235 million CZK).

Můstek not until autumn

One of the key metro stations to be made wheelchair-accessible is Můstek. However, the selection procedure for the contractor has not been finalised yet. It is expected that the works will have started by the end of this year. The proposed technical solution of the wheelchair access is two personal lifts (transporting up to 1000 kg with 23 metres of transport height) which would start in the building in front of the pharmacy called Adamova Lékárna in Wenceslas Square. One lift would lead to the transit corridor and the other lift (with 16 metres of transport height) would connect it to the platforms of line A and B.  Also a short staircase will be built between the connecting corridor and the platform on line A. The estimated total cost for preparations and realization of the construction is approximately 110 million CZK (the expected amount of funding is 88 million CZK). When the renovation has finished, all three transit metro station will be wheelchair-accessible, which will significantly facilitate and shorten the time of the use of public transport for people with reduced mobility.

Finished by 2025

“Our objective is to make public transport in Prague accessible to all passengers by the year 2025, which means, in co-operation with Prague Public Transit Company, to adjust all the metro stations in Prague and most tram and bus stops so that they are wheelchair-accessible. Although these adjustments require huge investments, I am convinced that this objective is realistic. I even consider it a necessary condition to meet the standards of modern travelling by city public transport,“ said Jiří Pařízek, Councillor for Transportation.

New lift in autumn 2015

Prague Public Transit Company plans to have the construction of the lifts in the three metro station finished and made accessible in the third quarter of the year 2015. The overall cost of all three constructions is estimated to be 280 million CZK, when part of it will be financed from the EU Funds. The construction works will not affect the regular operation of the underground.

Almost one and a half million for wheelchair access

For a long time, Prague Public Transit Company has been monitoring the trend of improving conditions for travelling by public transport, also for passengers with reduced mobility. On 22nd October 2009, Prague City Assembly discussed and approved The Programme of Strategic Conception of the City of Prague for the years 2009–2015 (Resolution No. 30/84), in which the estimated cost of making metro stations wheelchair-accessible is approximately 1.4 billion CZK.
