PPTC has about 7.72 kilometres of tracks ready for repairs and these include additional modifications to traffic islands to ensure barrier-free accesses, this affects tram lines and engineering network in areas of Bělohorská, Průběžná – Švehlova, Karlovo náměstí in section Myslíkova – Resslova – Moráň and Braník – Modřany. The total expenses calculated in the budget plan will reach 420.88 million CZK. Bus services will provide alternative transport to the disrupted tram lines.

Renovations and clearance of flood aftermath

“Planned reconstructions will be conducted in the key transit sections of the city that are in need of renovation. The tram track from Braník to Modřany, on the other hand, is in need of repairs as a result of the floods. The reconstruction process in the summer months will upgrade the overall ageing condition of tram tracks in Prague,” explained Jan Šurovský, a technical director for PPTC.

Overview of tram track reconstructions and repairs in the summer 2014:

  • Reconstruction works on the tram track Bělohorská from 28th April to 30th August
  • Reconstruction works on the tram track Průběžná – Švehlova from 28th June to 13th September – divided into two phases
  • Reconstruction works on the tram track Myslíkova – Resslova – Moráň – two phases from 28th June to 8th August
  • Repairs on the tram track Braník – Modřany from 28th June to 30th August

The tram track Bělohorská and also Průběžná-Švehlova will be reconstructed in line with their less frequented services. Railway track will be utilised for this purpose (as implemented on Plzeňská, the tracks will be grassed over). Someone might wonder about the length of repairs on the route Myslíkova - Resslova – Moráň that is only 400 metres long. “This is due to the nature of repair works. We cannot use heavy equipment nor can we occupy much space around, like we do in Bělohorská,” added Mr Šurovský.
