Black mouth on tracks

On the occasion of the celebrations on Sunday 10th August, PPTC will put in operation its historical Soviet trains 81-71, nicknamed briquette or black mouth on account of its characteristic design of the front“. These trains were developed specifically for the relatively steep slopes on the track. Since 2009 they have not been put in service except for special occasions.

Back to 1978

On trains 81-71, metro fans and the general public can look forward to announcements from the station radio stating the destination and giving information about the launch of its operation in the particular section. Metro drivers will be dressed in period uniforms and the trains will have period signs with the final stop written on them at the front part of the train. Anyone interested in traveling on these special trains can use regular tickets or travel cards.

From Leninova to Náměstí Míru

The first ride of the train will start at 11.45 a.m. from Dejvická metro station (which used to be called Leninova, i.e. Lenin’s Station) to Náměstí Míru metro station. The route and the time of the opening ride is identical with those in 1978.

The whole route A

The second ride of the historical train will be from Dejvická to Želivského, where the operation started in 1980. The third one will set off from Dejvická to Strašnická (opened in July 1987) and the fourth one from Dejvická to Skalka (July 1990). The fifth ride will go from Dejvická all the way to Depo Hostivař, the final station on line A since 2006. All the rides will go in both directions (for exact departure times see the timetable).

Exceptionally to Hostivař Depot

The ride to Hostivař Depot will be exceptional in the history of Prague underground, as the operation in that section didn’t start until after the trains 81-71 had finished their operation on line A, which means that they have never driven through that section when in regular operation. The last train of this type drove on line A in June 2005. The opportunity to take a ride on this type of train in the above mentioned section is exceptional, it only takes place during the Antal event and also as part of the popular historical rides.

“A ride on the historical metro train 81-71, which was completely restored two years ago, is a good opportunity to make Sunday 10th August more interesting. We invite all Prague public transport fans and the general public to try again the ride on the particular train,“ said Jaroslav Ďuriš, PPTC’s Director General.
