Being on the UNESCO World Heritage List is not Enough
Prague is celebrating the 20th anniversary since it was put on the UNESCO world heritage list. The same applies to two other Czech towns, Český Krumlov and Telč.

Archbishop Duka Appointed Cardinal
The head of the Archdiocese of Prague has become a cardinal. Pope Benedict XVI appointed Dominik Duka cardinal on Friday 6th January at the close of a mass that he served on the occasion of the Epiphany.

Wilson Memorial Returns to the Station
The story of the memorial to President Woodrow Wilson, which first appeared in Prague on 28th October 1928, has a happy ending. The statue was destroyed by German occupying forces and after the war there was no political will to restore it.

Those Who Want to Save, Get Opencard
Passengers who download a public transport voucher on to their Opencard will not be influenced by the recent tariff changes: While the price of individual tickets has risen by CZK 6 as of 1st July, the price of Opencard season ticket remains unchanged.

Holocaust Victims Commemoration Day
On Monday, 2nd May, Náměstí Míru square will see a commemorative public reading of the names of all those who were discriminated and killed by the Nazi regime because of their origins. The event is jointly held by the Foundation for Holocaust Victims and Trezine Initiative Institute under the auspices of Czech ex-President Václav Havel.

Prague Astronomical Clock – Rooster Flaps Wings Again
Petr Skála finished minor repairs on the astronomical clock ahead of schedule and after 66 years installed a new rooster, which, unlike the previous one, flaps its wings.

Kampa Voted Second Best Island within Cities
Reuter’s agency has published the top the islands within cities, where Kampa came in second place. It was surpassed only by Ile Saint-Louis, Paris. Ada Ciganlija, Belgrade ended up third.

Prague Has Best Restaurants
The independent Maurer’s Selection of the best Czech restaurants GRAND RESTAURANT 2011 is once again featuring the best TOP 100 restaurants in the Czech Republic. A total of six thousand independent evaluators decided that La Degustation Bohême Bourgeoise in Haštalska Street is the most outstanding restaurant in all of the Czech Republic.
