Actor to photographer
Born in 1955, Michael W. Pospíšil is known to younger generations from television screens. As a child, he starred in several important Czech films, such as Vojtěch Jasný’s ‘The Cassandra Cat’ (‘Až přijde kocour’), and in Karel Zeman's ‘The Stolen Airship’ (‘Ukradená vzducholoď ’).
35 years in Paris
After graduating from the Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (known in Czech as FAMU), he moved to France and accepted French citizenship. In France, he worked as a director, producer, screenwriter, editor and cinematographer for French television and for several government agencies and large companies.
He started his career in cultural diplomacy in 2000. He became the director of the Czech Centre in Paris and in Sofia, and he went on to become the CEO of the entire network of Czech Centres. In 2005, he was awarded the French Ordre des Arts et des Lettres. In 2016, he returned from Paris to Prague for good.
Photography is his passion
Photography has been Pospíšil’s passion since his childhood. Most of his photographs were made during his life in Paris, but many were taken in other interesting places around the world, including Prague and other areas in the Czech Republic.
Another exhibition called ‘Paris, etc…’ is held in the Leica Gallery in Prague at the same time.
