Summer cinemas

The open-air screenings will take place in the best summer cinemas in Prague: Containall Stromovka, Kino Pláž in Holešovice and in the Klubovna culture centre garden in Dejvice Clubhouse.

Christian Petzold’s 2008 drama ‘Jerichow’, loosely inspired by the 1934 American novel ‘The Postman Always Rings Twice’ by James M. Cain, is among the films on offer.

Fatih Akin, another German director, will have three movies screened during Das Sommrkino festival: the uncompromising drama ‘Head-On’ (German: ‘Gegen die Wand’), which won the European Film Award; the comedy ‘Soul Kitchen’, which the festival jury in Venice loved; and the historical film ‘The Cut’.

Oscar-winning director Caroline Link’s fragile poetic film ‘Beyond Silence’ (‘Jenseits der Stille’), the psychological film ‘Midnight Runner’ (‘Der Läufer’) by Hannes Baumgartner, and Andreas Schmied’s comedy ‘Love Machine’ are also on the programme.

Das Filmfest

In October, this mini festival will be followed by the traditional Das Filmfest, which has run every year since 2006.

Once again, there will be an opportunity to see films that would otherwise be less common in Czech cinemas. At the same time, you can look forward to an inspiring meeting with representatives of European cinema.
