‘U Halánků’ is the name of the historical building in Betlémské Square in the Old Town of Prague. The traditional Christmas event takes place in the courtyard of this old building. This year’s annual event is dedicated to the exploration of ancient Egypt. Therefore, the afternoon will not only be filled with cookies, mulled wine, and a Christmassy atmosphere, but also with information about ancient history.

All about Egypt

Guided tours of the exhibition ‘On the banks of the Nile’, starting at 2pm, 3pm and 4pm, will be a part of the programme. This exhibition will teach visitors of all ages interesting facts about the lives of ancient Egyptians. Through the exhibits, visitors will not only learn about ancient Egyptian crafts, but also about their leisure activities. There will also be an opportunity to try senet, ancient Egyptian board game.

And since mummies are such an important part of ancient Egyptian culture, there will also be some mummies on display. However, they are not human, but animal – ancient Egyptians also mummified their pets! As part of the guided tours, visitors will learn about the processes and purposes of mummification.

 

Christmas workshop

There will also be an art workshop on in the afternoon, which will be inspired by the entire continent of Africa. Creative children and adults can make their own Christmas cards with African motifs or original African bracelets, which can serve as a perfect gift.
