The latest Scandi festival, which offers a cross-section of all genres, will convince you that Nordic films usually have perfectly constructed stories. Apart from six premiere screenings, festival goers can look forward to a great selection of the best recent Scandinavian movies.

Women at war

The theme of this year's sixth annual Scandi festival is ‘women on the war trail’. The main section of the festival portrays women as leaders who are decisive about their future and their autonomy, and who are not afraid to defend their positions. Audiences will have the opportunity to meet the directors, screenwriters and actresses.

This is also the spirit of the opening film of the festival. The Danish drama ‘Queen of Hearts’ narrates the story of a relationship between a successful lawyer and her teenage stepson. May el-Toukhy's film has already been successful at Sundance and Göteborg, and is expected to be in with a chance at the 2020 Oscars.

Premieres

The psychological thriller ‘Perfect Patient’, which reveals the biggest scandal in the history of the Swedish justice system, is just one of the many films premiering at the festival.

‘Out Stealing Horses’ is another film worth your attention. The movie based on a novel by Peter Petterson is set in the 1940s and 1990s, and tells the story of an older man as he remembers the tragedy and passion of his past.

Scandi festival will also screen interesting films of the past years for Prague audiences.
