The motto of the Open House Prague 2020 is ‘Architecture for all’. The traditional event allows architecture lovers to explore the hidden treasures of Prague architecture, which are usually inaccessible, for free.

Company headquarters, modern technical buildings, historical palaces, stately villas, modern office complexes, a railway station, and technical and industrial buildings are among the buildings taking part in the festival’s sixth year. You will enjoy the view of Prague from rooftops and terraces and discover ancient underground spaces.

Alone or in a group

Some of the buildings will be freely accessible. However, guided group tours will be organised in most buildings. The size of groups and admission system will vary from building to building. Check the programme for details.

Programme

The Trmal Villa, Vyšehrad National Monument, Petschek Palace, Nusle Town Hall, Metro Palace and Forum are among the architectural gems on the festival programme this year. Modern Buildings include the Prachnerova residential housing project, nominated for the Czech Architecture Award, and the SHQ and NHQ buildings in the ČSOB Campus in Radlice, which are examples of environmentally friendly architecture. Some other interesting sites are the premises of the former slaughterhouse market, a three-floor underground shelter on the premises of Thomayer Hospital, Ďáblice Observatory, Ďáblice Fire Station, Evangelic Cemetery and Crematorium in Strašnice, Olšany Cemetery, Nusle Brewery with its rich industrial history, Orionka Tram Depot, and the Water Tower in Letná. Prague Exhibition Grounds will offer a tour of the technical background of the Small Sports Hall, swimming pool and the Spiral Theatre.

For children

The festival organisers have not forgotten about the youngest visitors. A free Lego workshop will be open throughout the festival weekend from 10am to 6pm in Dům Radost, a functionalist building near Winston Churchill Square. Children will not be the only ones to enjoy the sea of Lego parts. And since the event celebrates architecture, why not build your own Lego dream house?
